Obituary of Albert Dale Wedekind

Albert (Al) Wedekind Al passed away on May 18, 2025. He was preceded in death by his wife Jeanine, his parents Albert and Nellie Wedekind and sister Arlene. He is survived by sons Tim (Barb) Wedekind and Scott Wedekind, grandchildren Becky (Jon) Hanson and Todd (Anna) Wedekind, and great-grandchildren Tristan, Gabriel, and Isaac Hanson, Inga and Soren Wedekind, and many nieces and nephews.

Albert was born June 13, 1931, in Newman Grove, Nebraska, where he met fellow classmate Jeanine Dorsey at age 13. After graduating high school in 1948, they were united in marriage in December 1951. They started farming near their hometown. Son Tim was born in early 1953, and Al was drafted into the army in August 1953. Jeanine then moved to Lincoln, Nebraska, with their son, and lived with her parents until Al returned from Germany in 1955.

After working for a period of time with the gas company in Lincoln, Al used the G.I. Bill to attend the University of Nebraska. He graduated in 1960 with a degree in Electrical Engineering. Son Scott was born in 1960. The family moved to S. St. Paul and then W. St. Paul, MN. After accepting a position at Univac in 1960, Al was laid off when the government contract was canceled. He started at 3M in 1962. He worked at the Maplewood facility until 1985 when Al and Jeanine were transferred to Austin, TX.

Al was a successful inventor credited with three patents. His efforts culminated with induction into the Carlton Society in 1985, 3M's highest technical recognition. They lived in Austin until Al retired in 1992. They also lived in Crosslake, MN; Punta Gorda, FL; Vadnais Heights, MN; and White Bear Lake, MN. New friendships were formed all along the way.

Al always had a project underway. He believed he could build anything and often used his skills to help others. He served actively in church leadership as President, member of church council, singing in choir, and planning and participating in events.

Memorial service: Mon., June 16 at 2:00pm (visitation 1:00pm) at Augustana Lutheran Church, 1400 S. Robert St., W. St. Paul, MN. 55118.

Inurnment at Fort Snelling National Cemetery at a later date.
