Obituary of Dennis Skog

In Memory of Dennis Skog

Dennis Skog of Moose Lake, MN fell asleep in death on Monday, May 12, 2025, at the age of 88. He was born on November 27, 1936, to his parents Herbert and Dagmar Skog who immigrated from Sweden and farmed land next to Island Lake.

In 1962 he married Carolyn Johnson and together they had a lively family: Jeffrey, Lisa, Heidi, Jason and Heather. The immediate family now includes Jeff and Cari Skog; Lisa (Jim) Wright, their son Spenser (Sydney) and 3 children (Elliot; Peyton and Stevin), daughter Morgan (Derek) Sherman; Heidi (Bruce) Plotezka and their daughter Samantha and son Tristan; Jason (Lisa) Skog; and Heather (Kyle) Suszek.

He was a good husband and father, endeavoring to live his life by Bible principles. Dennis and Carolyn lived in Carlton, MN from 1963 to 1987 but then moved to St. Paul, then Hastings MN. Sadly Carolyn passed away in November 1995 at the age of 54. Dennis remarried in 1997 to Jennine Kluender, and they enjoyed 20 wonderful years together living in Minnesota and Florida until she died in 2017. He loved Jennine’s children as well: Kim, Lynn, Kurt, Corrina and Coleen. After Jennine’s death, he moved back to his hometown of Moose Lake.

Dennis started his married life working for a furniture store in Cloquet but became a skilled carpet installer. Many knew him in the Carlton area because he drove a school bus for many years. (On occasion he would bring the entire busload of kids to the Dairy Delight for ice cream.) He also started Skog’s Fire and Safety Equipment, selling and servicing many businesses in the area. He transitioned to cleaning hood and duct systems in restaurants and would later take a job in building maintenance in Hastings, MN.

Through the years the Skog family was known for their hospitality. Often Dennis would come to the aid of friends and family to assist in whatever way he could. He was mechanically inclined and had a knack for fixing things. He was a good cook and loved to bake, a skill that was passed on to his children. Anytime was a good time for a root beer float or butterscotch pudding. Potato dumplings were a specialty that the family enjoyed. He also had a good sense of humor and known for his teasing, especially when he won at cribbage. He loved to laugh at his children and grandchildren’s antics.

Above all, he appreciated God’s Word the Bible and regularly read and studied it. On September 13, 1953, he dedicated his life to Jehovah God and worked hard at living up to that dedication. His strong faith included treasuring God’s promise of a resurrection to a restored paradise Earth in the future. For now, Dennis lives in God’s memory, and we look forward to being reunited with him soon. For more information, please visit jw.org and type in ‘resurrection’ in the search bar.

The family is deeply appreciative of the outpouring of love and support.

From our family to yours, thank you.
