Obituary of Lorraine Helen May
Lorraine Helen May (Schekall)
Lorraine (Lorrie) May, born in Perham, MN, died May 27, 2025 at Woodlake in New Hope, MN. Preceded in death by parents William Schekall and Agnes Meyers; daughter-in-law Martha Lewis May; and her beloved husband of 57 years, Bobby May;
Lorrie graduated from Sauk Centre HS in 1951 and Minnesota School of Business in 1952, and worked for Perma Stone and Butternut Coffee before marrying Bob in 1953. They were stationed at Naval bases throughout the US for 17 years before they settled in Brooklyn Park, MN, where they attended St. Alphonsus Catholic Church for over 40 years. Together they attended Seminary for 3 years after which Bob was ordained as a Deacon in 1988; Lorrie & Bob ministered together in the Archdiocese of St. Paul/Minneapolis until Bob’s death in 2007.
From early childhood Lorrie had a great love for piano and singing and was very accomplished at both. In her junior year she had a radio show every Sunday afternoon on KXRA in Alexandria, MN. She sang in choirs at schools and churches throughout her life, becoming well respected and frequently requested as a soloist and cantor at masses, weddings, and funerals. In 1993, she sang at the Basilica of St. Peter in Rome with the St. Alphonsus Senior Choir as cantor and soloist for Pope John Paul II. In 1998 she retired from Daytons after working 20 years as a Credit Specialist, having been honored “as one of Daytons’ finest”.
In recent years, she was a resident of Realife Co-op in Brooklyn Park, St. Therese in Brooklyn Park and New Hope, and Woodlake in New Hope.
She is survived by her children Michael May (IN), Timothy May (Frances) (OK), Ann Printz (Scott) (GA), Jeffrey May (Ifigenia) (UK), John May (Rhonda) (MN); grandchildren Eric May (Kelley), Cari Buzan (Derek), Bobbie Printz (Mike), Aaron Printz,
Timothy Giese (Becca), Caitlin May, Rachael Weis (Blake), and Solonas Palimeri-May; and great granddaughters Josie, Izzy, Mara, Norah, Kennedy, and Cora; nephews and nieces Bill, Sandy, Kathryn, Judy, Cathy, David, Bonnie, and Rick.
The family wishes to thank the staff of St. Therese and Woodlake in New Hope, Twin Cities Physicians, and North Memorial Hospice for their caring efforts to help Lorrie live out her final years on her own terms. A cherished daughter, wife, mother, grandmother, and friend who touched the lives of many people. She will be deeply missed by all.
