Obituary of Phouangsouvanh Bouphasavanh

The rain transitioned to soft sunshine when Phouangsouvanh (Souvanh) Bouphasavanh was called to heaven on May 22nd, 2025. He was 78 years old. Souvanh was born in Pakse, Laos as the oldest of 10. He was a dedicated son, brother, cousin, husband, father, grandfather, uncle, friend, and neighbor.  His bright yet humble smile made an impact on others everywhere he lived, including Australia, France, and then the United States, where he built a beautiful life with his wife, Phavady, and three children, Nino, Niny, and Nina.

A quiet philanthropist, he always donated to causes he believed in and helped his family and friends. Souvanh was instrumental in bringing his entire family and his wife’s family to America during the Vietnam War.  He spent over 40 years living in Minnesota, a place he believed was the best in the world. He loved fishing, autumn, and a good plate of fish and chips.

He relished living a simple and private life, where his joy came from being with family, feeding the birds, mowing his lawn, or having a nice McDonald’s coffee and a Big Breakfast. A master of gardening and cooking, he was an example of presence, patience, and grace.

Souvanh excelled in his career and eventually retired from medical manufacturing at Medtronic after two decades. While he was well-traveled, astute about world history, politics, and geography, his greatest accomplishment was being a loving husband and father.

The ache in our hearts will never fade. Funeral services are scheduled for Thursday, May 29th, 2025, at the Cremation Society of Minnesota in Brooklyn Park. Visitation begins at 10am with a Buddhist service and cremation to follow.
