Obituary of Dennis Tighe Smith

In Loving Memory of Dennis Tighe Smith of Robbinsdale, MN.

He was born on 5/14/1956 in Golden Valley, MN to Pat and Robert Smith. As a child, he lived in Minnesota, Virginia and Paris, France. He graduated from West High School in South Minneapolis in 1974.

For college, he attended two years at the American College in Paris. When he was living there, he was often found touring on his bike, spending time at the horse racetrack, and being an au pair. When he returned to the states, he graduated from the University of Minnesota with a degree in child psychology.

He spent his professional life as a painting contractor and started Twin Cities Painters. He enjoyed being a slow pitch softball umpire for many summers and a referee for children’s basketball.

He married Deborah in 1984 and was married for 41 blissful years. They share two daughters- Arianne and Jenna. He was a proud father and grandfather to three grandchildren.

He enjoyed playing golf, moped adventures, spending time at Canterbury Downs, family time and traveling with his wife, Deborah. His favorite travel spots included Paris, Mexico, Florida, Northern Minnesota and Wisconsin.

He is survived by his beloved wife Deborah, his daughters Arianne Smith and Jenna McGuire (Paul Mcguire), his adored grandchildren: twins Lilly & Lenny and baby Leon, his brother Scott Smith (Kelly Osborne), his brother Bryan Smith (Jennie Smith), his sister Amy Bangs (Chris Bangs) and many nieces and nephews. He will be greatly missed by many.

Celebration of Life will occur on Thursday, June 5, 2025

visitation at 1:30pm - celebration service to begin at 2:00pm with reception to follow 

at the Cremation Society of MN, 7110 France Ave S, Edina, MN 55435.
