Obituary of Michael Nesje
It is with heavy hearts we announce the passing of Michael Goodman “three toes” Nesje, 45 of Duluth. Michael passed peacefully at home, as he wished, on March 12, 2025, after a courageous battle with cancer. His family and faithful companions by his side.
He was born on July 17, 1979, in Cloquet to Ronald and Vickie Nesje. Michael was a happy child. He had a tender heart and loved deeply.
Michael attended Denfeld High School and made Duluth his home.
You could always find him in the garage with the radio on and his door open, ready to repair a bike chain or offering friendship and solace to anyone in need. Sometimes even the shirt off his back.
In later years, when mobility was harder, he could still be found, with his apartment door open for anyone.
Michael was known for his big heart and generosity. He did not always have much but was quick to share with those in need. Always having offerings for the strays that showed at his window.
Michael enjoyed working with his hands, whether it be drawing, rolling a joint, or working on a vehicle like his prized Frankenstein. Before his passing, he had become quite a cultivator and foodie.
He had an interesting sense of humor, whether it made you laugh or cringe, he enjoyed it. His fun spirit never left him, making jokes and pranking people until the end.
He loved spending time with friends and family, listening to music, playing games, watching his niece “bug” play hockey, Saturdays with family and watching the classics. He was an expert in trivial knowledge and could always tell you what a certain movie was called or who the actor was.
Michael was very spirited. If he was happy, you knew it, if he was upset, you knew it and you better buckle up. If you were lucky enough to be loved by Michael, you were loved unconditionally.
Michael was a true warrior, being diagnosed with cancer at an early age and battling it until the end. His memory remains a symbol of strength, a reminder to not take things for granted and to try to have a little fun while not caring about what others think.
Michael will be greatly missed by his Grandfather, Melvin Aho; Mother Vickie Nesje, Sisters: Lisa Nesje (Tony); Sara Nesje (Thomas); Brothers: Cory Tondryk (Sancia); Mikey Tondryk (Laurie); Chris “bubbles” Tondryk (Lacie). Nieces and Nephews: Adrian and Andrew Nesje, Jessie (Kaden) Forneris; Abbi, Lexi (Goddaughter), Lily “bug” Tondryk. Lizzy and Jaidyn Tondryk; Connor Wills; Cora and Aria Tondryk. Several aunts and uncles, good friends Zachary Tomeck, Elizabeth Clark and faithful companion Komodo (MoMo).
Celebration of Life will be held at Cremation Society of MN on June 20, 2025. Visitation at 9:00 a.m. with memorial at 10:00 a.m. A light lunch at Mr. D’s Bar and Grill will follow and later join us at the Morgan Park Community Center with some of Michael’s favorite games, a few of Michael’s favorite foods, music, and a lot of laughter and fun. Be ready to share a memory or two.
