Obituary of Shawn Arthur Kummala

Shawn Arthur Kummala, father of two, passed away suddenly on Monday, May 12th, 2025. 

Friends and family are welcome to attend his service/burial at 10:00 am on Friday,  May 23, 2025 at the Minnesota State Veterans Cemetery - Duluth.

Shawn was born on August 29th, 1972 to his loving parents Elmer and Mary. Shawn was a well-known figure in the Cloquet area. He was the youngest of three siblings, and his youthful spunk was one of his defining characteristics. Everyone who knew Shawn would use one word to describe him: selfless. If Shawn saw some in need, he was always the first to spring into action. From family members to hitchhikers, Shawn would drop everything to help those who needed it the most. He brought an infectious energy everywhere he went. He was best known for his laugh and his smile. His positive outlook was undeniable. Even when life got tough, Shawn still saw the goodness in life, and his presence can still be felt in his friends and family. 

Shawn was honorably discharged from the US Army after 3 years. He is survived by his daughters, Britney and Tory Kummala, and by his sisters, Debbie Scheer and Kae Karulak. He is also survived by his grandson, Maverick Axel Rossing. Today, we remember those who have passed: his father, Elmer; his mother, Mary; his brother-in-law, Tim; and his grandson, Finn. His family extends into nieces and nephews, cousins, and close friends. He will be truly missed.
