Obituary of JoAnn Ruth Potts
JoAnn Ruth Potts (96) passed away peacefully on May 8, 2025, surrounded by her beloved family and friends. JoAnn was born the youngest of two children on December 20, 1928, to Stan and Mary Ruth Low. JoAnn was married to the love of her life, Jim, for 71 years. Together they raised 5 children whom she loved dearly. JoAnn was an amazing music teacher at a variety of schools, and she proudly worked her way up from secretary and Dona Chords director to the first female Office Manager for Donaldson Company.
JoAnn’s life passion was music. Her parents said she was born harmonizing. She sang so beautifully, coached others in their singing and directed choirs effortlessly. JoAnn played just about any musical instrument, and loved the piano and melodica the best. JoAnn was a mainstay in the choir at St. Joan’s for many years, in many roles. JoAnn also volunteered in other ways with Jim, resulting in lifelong dear friends at St. Joan of Arc Church.
JoAnn is survived by her children Stan (Linda), Jerry (Melissa), Ken (Mary Pat), Chris (Larry), and Carol; her 9 Grandchildren – Melissa, Michael, Briana, Michaela, Kevin, Elizabeth, Catherine, Samuel, and Jozanna; as well as 8 Great Grandchildren She was preceded in death by her husband, Jim, her parents, and her sister Mary Janet Giuliani
We will celebrate JoAnn’s life at a Funeral Mass at St. Joan of Arc Catholic Church (Minneapolis) on Thursday, June 5, at 2:00 PM, with Visitation starting at 1:00 PM.
JoAnn was very special to us all in different ways and will be greatly missed. In lieu of flowers, the family suggests a donation to the Sisters of St. Joseph of Carondelet
