Stephen Scully

Obituary of Stephen Richard Scully

Stephen Richard Scully, 34, of Plymouth, passed away on April 24, 2025, as a result of complications that developed after surgery.

Stephen was born May 10, 1990, in Minneapolis. He was raised in Plymouth and a 2008 graduate of Providence Academy. Stephen studied Japanese at the University of Alaska in Fairbanks. He traveled to Europe multiple times, spent weeks in Romania, and was planning a trip to Ireland.

Stephen was very much like his mother in that he loved literature, philosophy, theology, and anything that challenged him intellectually. He was endlessly curious. Engineering fascinated him, and he loved to figure out how things worked. He loved music ranging from traditional jazz to heavy metal, always looking for the quality of the musicianship.

He was the most broadly knowledgeable person that you might ever meet. He was a delight to converse with and would gladly speak to anyone about any subject, anytime, anywhere.

But more than anything, Stephen loved storytelling. He loved to read and treated his hard copy books like they were jewels. He loved the stories in both board gaming and computer gaming. He was a writer of fiction and was proud of his online publications.

Stephen is preceded in death by his mother, Bethanne (Olson) Scully, who passed away two years ago after a long struggle with Multiple Sclerosis.

He is survived by his father, Michael Scully, and many extended family members and lifelong friends.

A memorial gathering will be held from 3:00 PM - 5:00 PM on Sunday, May 18, 2025,
