Marianne (Knoblechner) Apenitis, 99 years, passed away peacefully on Wednesday morning, 23 April 2025, in her home in Shorewood, MN.


Born in March of 1926 in Salzburg, Austria she attended school, apprenticed and schooled in her craft of dressmaking. After WWII, she found work in Canada, married in Niagara Falls, New York, and moved to Minneapolis in the mid 1950’s.


For decades Marianne created and altered women’s garments, wedding dresses, bridal party dresses. She also did alterations for both Nygren’s women’s apparel stores in Hopkins and Excelsior, and for a time also performed alterations for garments for Nancy Lawrence store (Edina). She loved to travel, and generally loved life, her family, and the family of friends she found drawn to her.


As a senior, Marianne was active in crafting and quilting in the South Shore Senior Center. She grew giant pumpkins in her back yard. She loved to bake and share. She also loved to read.


Marianne is preceded in death by her father, Josef Planitzer, her mother, Elisabeth (Knoblechner) Graf and her son, Manfred, as well as aunts, uncles, and cousins.


She is survived by daughters Rosetta Schuette and Heidi Keeney, her grandson Paris (Max) Schuette, and granddaughter Heidi (Mari) Scherber, and cousins, their children, and their grandchildren.
