Margaret Lager

Obituary of Margaret Rose Lager

Margaret Rose Lager (Larson), 82, of Edina, MN, passed away peacefully the evening of Sunday, April 20, holding hands with her daughters. Margaret was born on April 6, 1943, in Langdon, ND, to Urban and Laura (Duncan) Larson.

She spoke often of growing up “on the farm” where her parents, and subsequently her brothers, were farmers in Cavalier County, ND. She graduated from St. James High School in Grand Forks, and attended the University of North Dakota (UND) where she was a member of the Delta Zeta sorority.

Margaret married Milford ‘Mel’ Lager on January 27, 1969, at Mount Olivet Lutheran Church in Minneapolis. They made their home in Edina, where she sharpened her green thumb with vegetable gardening and perennial plants, and was tenacious about keeping spectacular flowerbeds. She was an avid reader, and volunteered many years for the Girl Scouts of America. She also had a love of feline friends and welcomed various cats into their home over the years.

Margaret is survived by daughters; Laurie (David) Sorenson, Chaska, MN; Rachel (Todd) Pederson and grandchildren Isabella Rose and Liam, Chanhassen, MN; beloved brothers and their families; Merritt Larson, Larry (Dianne) Larson, and Mark (Nina) Larson; and many extended family members and friends.

She is preceded in death by her husband and best friend, Mel Lager, parents Urban and Laura Larson, and sister-in-law Peggy Larson. Margaret’s final resting place will be Fort Snelling National Cemetery with Mel, a WWII veteran.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Animal Humane Society of MN.
