Obituary of James Smith Cullen, Jr.

James Smith Cullen Jr., 77, of Minnetonka, MN passed away on April 25, 2025.

Born April 29, 1947, in Minneapolis, MN. He attended St. Louis Park High School (class of 1965), where he met his wife, Sue, and many lifelong friends. They nicknamed him “Chopper”, in reference to his early affinity for motorcycles. Jim's biggest passion was being on the water, including boating on the St. Croix, spending weekends at the cabin in Crosslake, and cruising on Lake Minnetonka. Jim was a plant manager for Sunburst Chemicals in Bloomington and was a loyal employee for 37 years before retiring in 2015.

Jim is survived by his wife of 58 years, Sue, sons Jim (Carla) and Brad (Nicki), sister Marce, grandchildren Maren (Charley) Klynderud, Jordan (Katie), Amanda, and Samantha, great grandchildren Daisy and Georgia Klynderud, and many other family and friends. He was preceded in death by his father, James Sr., and mother Barbara.

A Celebration of Life will be held on Friday, May 9, at the Medina Entertainment Center, 500 Hwy 55, Medina, MN. Visitation starts at 5pm, with a formal tribute at 6:30pm, reception to follow. Hors d'oeuvres provided throughout the celebration. Memorials to the donor's favorite charity or the Animal Humane Society.
