Obituary of Barbara Ann Kusmierz

In Loving Memory of Barbara Ann Kusmierz
October 26, 1941 – April 8, 2025

With profound sadness, we announce the peaceful passing of Barbara Ann Kusmierz—a devoted wife, loving mother, cherished grandmother and great-grandmother, dear sister, and treasured friend. Barbara passed away on April 8, 2025, in Coon Rapids, Minnesota, surrounded by the love of her family.

Born on October 26, 1941, in Eveleth, MN, to Frank and Mildred (Ocepek) Platner, Barbara (“Barb”) lived a life rich in love, laughter, and compassion. She graduated from Eveleth High School in 1959 and later moved to Northeast Minneapolis, where she married her husband, John Kusmierz, in 1961. Together, they raised four children and built a life centered around family.

Barb found her greatest joy in spending time with those she loved, especially her grandchildren and great-grandchildren, whose lives she filled with warmth, wisdom, and joy.

She had a vivacious spirit—she loved to dance, to laugh, and to brighten every room with her kindness and generosity. Though words cannot fully capture her essence, we find comfort in remembering a life so beautifully lived and deeply loved.

She will be forever missed and lovingly remembered by her husband of 64 years, John Kusmierz; her children: John (Courtland) Kusmierz, Janene (James) Kobow, and Paul Kusmierz (Justyna); her grandchildren: John Kyler Kusmierz, Priscilla Kusmierz, Krystal (Caleb) Srnka, Jillian Kobow (James), Joshua (Kelsi) Kobow, Jade (Brandon) Decker, Jessica, and Milani Kusmierz; and her great-grandchildren: Evelyn Kusmierz, Kyli and Easton Kobow, Braxton, Briella, and Banks Decker. She is also survived by her sisters: Rose Marie (Frank) and Carol.

Barb was preceded in death by her beloved son, Steven; her brothers, Frank, Edward, and Albin Platner; her sisters, Mary Ribich and Gloria Leseman; and her parents, Frank and Mildred Platner.

A visitation will be held at 3:00 PM, followed by a memorial service at 4:00 PM on Friday, April 25, 2025, at the Brooklyn Park Chapel of the Cremation Society of Minnesota, 7835 Brooklyn Boulevard, with a reception to follow.
