Obituary of Jerome Robert Carlson
Jerome Robert Carlson of Duluth died on April 5th, 2025 after a long battle with Cancer.
Jerome was born to Carl John Carlson and Roberta Goddard (Carlson) Peterson in Duluth, MN on March 15th, 1947. He was raised in Duluth, Minnesota and Pierre, S.D. Jerome attended The University of Minnesota, Duluth, Central High School, Washington School, Arnold School and a one room schoolhouse in Goodwater, S.D.
Jerome served in the U.S. Navy aboard the USS Bushnell (AS-15) from 1965-1970. He resumed service as a Radioman for the U.S. Coastguard from 1976-1980 on the USCGC Laurel WLB 291, which was built in Duluth, MN.
As a child and teen Jerome delivered newspapers. In adulthood Jerome was often employed with his family as a mason and carpenter, contributing to the construction of homes all around Duluth. In addition to construction Jerome was a highly capable property owner and mechanic, building and upkeeping his home and vehicles with little to no outside help. Jerome was fiercely independent and didn’t easily tolerate having a boss - which led to him holding many jobs in his lifetime before he retired.
He was preceded in death by his father, mother, and brothers C.J. Carlson and Worth (Vicky) Carlson.
Jerome is survived by his wife of 56 years, Cathy Carlson, son Matthew (Caren) Carlson, daughter Carrie (Joel) Conley, 6 grandchildren and 3 siblings.
A private committal service will be held at the Minnesota State Veterans Cemetery in Saginaw.
