Obituary of Jack Otto Glander

Dr. Jack Glander

Jack Otto Glander, 91, who lived in Rolette, ND for many years, peacefully passed into eternity with his Savior on March 25, 2025 in St. Paul, MN. He battled Parkinson’s Disease for about 7 years.

He was born on January 1, 1934 to Otto and Emma (Brunner) Glander and was the little brother to Corinne in Wahpeton, ND. He grew up enjoying baseball, football, basketball, track and swimming. He became a lifeguard at the pool in Chahinkapa Park. He graduated from Wahpeton High School in 1952. He furthered his education at the University of North Dakota, participated in the ROTC program and graduated with a degree in Social Science with a minor in Physical Education in 1956.

On October 5, 1956, he married Jan Miller. He joined the U.S. Air Force as an officer and became a pilot and Captain. Jack and Jan lived in many different places while Jack served in the military including Mississippi, Florida, Wyoming, and Washington. Jack also completed an assignment at a base in Labrador, Canada. They both fondly remembered their time in Colville, WA.

After serving in the Air Force for 4 years, Jack attended the School of Dentistry at the University of Minnesota. Before graduating in 1965, twin girls were born to Jack and Jan. Jack and his young family moved to Rolette, ND where he started a dental practice. Soon after, another baby girl was born to them. Jack practiced dentistry in Rolette until he closed his private practice in 2000. He continued his dental career in a supervisory and teaching role at the Indian Health Service dental clinic in Belcourt, ND for several years.

While living in Rolette, Jack enjoyed many outdoor activities including hunting, fishing with his buddy, Pat, an annual fishing trip to Canada, golfing, and curling. He very much enjoyed supporting his kids in all their activities including swimming, skiing, and traveling with his family. He was the mayor of Rolette for 2 terms. He loved riding motorcycle and had several bikes throughout his life, including a Harley Davidson. Jack was known to be loving, protective, gentle, athletic, calm, and funny.

In 2018, due to declining health, he moved to the Twin Cities to live with his daughter, Jill, and her family, with daughter Lisa and her daughter nearby. This move facilitated the reconciliation of him and Jan after many years apart. They enjoyed a sweet relationship until she passed into eternity in 2022. He lived there happily watching the deer in the yard and all the dogs walking by until 2022 when he fell and broke his hip. After reparative surgery and time in rehab, he moved into Lyngblomsten Care Center. His favorite activities while living there were cruising around on his power chair, visits from family, and watching the Twins, Vikings, and the Wild games on TV.

He is survived by his big sister, Corinne Mote, 98, of Phoenix, AZ, his daughters: Heidi (Scott) Ladwig, Lisa Glander, and Jill (Bruce) Boehrs, his 7 grandchildren: Bethani Glander, Marlysa Ladwig, Wyatt (Adrian) Ladwig, Brian, Stephanie, Katharina, and Olivia Boehrs, nieces, nephews, and a few cousins.

Jack was preceded in death by his parents, Otto and Emma, his wife of 40 years, Jan Glander, aunts and uncles, and two baby grandchildren.

The family is planning a celebration of life service on Sat., May 24 at Chahinkapa Park in Wahpeton, ND.
