Obituary of Kay Kibler Lindsay
Kay Kibler Lindsay of Burnsville, MN and formerly Glenview, IL passed away peacefully surrounded by her loving family on April 4, 2025 at the age of 88. She was born in Chicago, IL on April 11, 1936 to Olan B. and Sylvia (Blohm) Kibler. Growing up in Wilmette, IL, Kay was the younger of two children, with a large extended family in the Chicagoland area.
After graduating from New Trier High School, Kay attended the University of Illinois where she earned a degree in Home Economics, beginning a lifelong personal and professional passion in the culinary arts. She was a member of the Kappa Delta sorority where she maintained many friendships, attending U of I homecomings and regular gatherings in the Chicagoland area.
Kay began her career working for Kraft Foods in Chicago, where she enjoyed being part of the team responsible for recipe development. It was during this period of her life that she met John Lindsay on a blind date that led to a long loving marriage that spanned several decades. During those early days together, Kay would frequently bring home samples of her recipe efforts from a day “at the office”, some of which eventually made their way onto the now ubiquitous box of Kraft Mac ‘n Cheese.
As their family grew, the Lindsay’s settled in Glenview, IL where Kay focused on being a homemaker. Kay was an active member in the Women’s Association and Chapter 8 Group of the Glenview Community Church, collaborating on numerous catering efforts for those in need while also volunteering at their resale store. She was also the consummate hostess of countless dinner parties and events for friends, family, and clients of her late husband. In her leisure time, Kay enjoyed playing tennis and bridge with close friends. Once she became an empty nester, Kay briefly returned to the professional world of food styling at the new Kraft campus in Glenview, preparing dishes that appeared in various publications. She also enjoyed spending time with grandchildren and hosting close friends in her beloved Northwoods cabin in Wisconsin.
After her husband’s passing in 2006, Kay took the opportunity to move to Minnesota to be closer to family and spend more time with her three grandchildren. She lived in Burnsville, MN and most recently in a senior living community at Havenwood of Burnsville where she was well cared for and known for her love of cookies.
Kay is survived by two children: John (Leisha) Lindsay, and Mark Lindsay; three grandchildren: Allison Lindsay, Erica (Chris) Schell, and Jack (Lauren) Lindsay. Kay is preceded in death by her husband John, her brother Charles, and her parents.
A private family memorial service will be held at a later date. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made in her name to Glenview Community Church, 1000 Elm Street, Glenview, IL 60025.
