Obituary of Margaret "Peggy" Ann Tanler
Margaret “Peggy” Ann Tanler, 73, of Waconia, Minnesota, tragically passed away on March 15, 2025, after a fall during her recovery from knee surgery.
Peggy was born on August 4, 1951 to Frank and Joan Doherty in St. Paul, Minnesota. She graduated from Our Lady of Peace High School in 1969.
Peggy and former spouse, John “Chris” Griggs were married in 1977 and had three children together.
In 2004, she met Richard “Rick” Tanler during a group bike ride, and they married in 2012. Peggy and Rick both loved creating art — Peggy enjoyed quilting, and Rick is a painter.
Peggy had an extensive and successful career in interior design. After retiring, she started her long arm quilting business, Prairie Point Quilting. Peggy’s love for quilting began in 1984, and she dedicated countless hours to creating beautiful quilts. Peggy won numerous awards at quilting shows, including the Arizona Quilt Show, Minnesota Quilt Show, Minnesota State Fair, Chaska Area Quilt Club, Women of the West Quilt Guild, and several more shows, including Exemplary Machine Quilting from the Arizona Quilt Show. Peggy leaves behind quilts that will forever preserve her memory.
Alongside quilting, Peggy enjoyed sewing, cooking, traveling, and taking long walks with her dog. Her greatest joy, however, came from spending time with her family and friends, cherishing every moment shared with them. Peggy considered her grandchildren the loves of her life and maintained a close relationship with each one. She and Rick attended their grandchildren’s birthday parties, games, recitals, and school performances, often hosted sleepovers at their house, and loved sharing their art with their grandchildren.
Peggy is survived by her husband, Rick; children Jaime (Sean) Pula, Derek (Kristina) Griggs and Chad (Liza) Griggs; brothers Mark (Roxanne) Doherty and Patrick (Patti) Doherty; Rick’s children Colin (Karly) Tanler and Andrew (Kaitlyn) Tanler; grandchildren Mason, Liam, Jaxson, Paisley, Finley, Eleanora, Blakely, Hugo, and Deacon; her nephews and their families; and her dog Chloe.
The family will host a celebration of Peggy’s life later this spring. If you’d like to honor Peggy’s memory, please consider donating to the Chaska Quilt Club.
