Obituary of Mary Jane Petersen
Mary Jane Petersen, 94, passed away on March 22, 2025.
Born in Bessemer, Michigan, Mary Jane graduated from high school in Hurley, Wisconsin, before pursuing her passion for nursing. She earned her RN degree from Saint Mary’s School of Nursing in Duluth, Minnesota, and dedicated her life to helping others.
A Florida resident for 50 years, Mary Jane spent 29 years in North Port before moving to The Villages in 2005. In 2021, she returned to Minnesota to be closer to family. She was deeply involved in her community, serving two terms as President of the North Port Education Center, teaching aerobic exercise classes for 25 years, and volunteering extensively.
Mary Jane had a zest for life—she was an avid bicyclist, a passionate dancer, and a woman who embraced every moment with energy and grace.
She is survived by her son, Mark Petersen, and daughters, Jeannine Kline, Janet White, Kristen Chilson, and Annette Worley, as well as six grandchildren and four great-grandchildren.
She will be laid to rest at Bushnell National Cemetery, with burial details to be announced at a later date.
Mary Jane’s kindness, dedication, and vibrant spirit will be deeply missed by all who knew and loved her.
