Obituary of Chuck Furlong
Charles "Chuck" Henry Furlong December 30, 1942 – March 23, 2025
Charles Henry Furlong, lovingly known as Chuck, passed away peacefully on March 23, 2025, after a courageous battle with Parkinson’s and Lewy Body Dementia. He was 82.
Chuck was born on December 30, 1942, in Maryland to John and Evelyn Furlong. He was preceded in death by his parents; his first wife, Judi; his son-in-law, Scotty Moe; and siblings Steve Furlong, Mary Crane, and Claire Baker; In addition to loved in-laws, nieces and treasured friends.
He is survived by his beloved wife and partner in adventure, Sandi; his children AnneMarie (Tim), Daniel (Ann), Heidi, Louis Sillars, and Laura Sillars; and grandchildren Nick Moran and Delaney Grundhauser-Strappe (Gavin). Chuck also leaves behind many cherished siblings, cousins, nieces, nephews, and a vast circle of dear friends whose lives were brighter because of him.
Chuck proudly served in the U.S. Navy as a cook and a shaver model—experiences that ignited his love for travel and fueled his larger-than-life sense of humor. His time in the service took him all over the world and sparked a passion for exploring, which he joyfully shared with his children.
After his Navy days, Chuck had a rewarding career as a mechanic at Northwest Airlines, where he formed lasting friendships. It was through Northwest that he met Sandi, and together they built a life filled with laughter, love, and travel. Over the years, Chuck also took on various side jobs, from working at JL Shiely’s to bartending, always bringing his charm, wit, and strong work ethic wherever he went.
Chuck was a true outdoorsman and passionate fisherman, creating countless cherished memories at Gull Lake Resort and on annual fishing trips to Canada and Alaska. He was as comfortable on the dance floor as he was in a fishing boat, always eager to spin someone into a twirl and bring others to join in with his infectious joy.
Another of Chuck's beloved traditions was celebrating Saint Patrick's Day, often taking the kids out of school to join in the parade. He also enjoyed a spirited game of cribbage, accompanied by his cat’s meows, always radiating warmth and kindness.
The family would like to extend their heartfelt gratitude to the caring teams at Gable Pines, Grace Hospice and Brightstar for their compassion and support.
In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to the Parkinson’s Foundation in Chuck’s honor.
A celebration of life will be held on April 26th from 12:00–3:00 PM at DeGidio’s, 425 Seventh Street W., Saint Paul, MN. All who knew and loved Chuck are welcome to join in remembering a life well lived and a man deeply loved.
