Obituary of Robert George Merhar
Robert “Bob” George Merhar passed away peacefully on March 10, 2025, at the age of 70. Bob was a kind, loving, and gentle man who had a remarkable ability to fix anything. His craftsmanship and skill were evident in his work as a cabinet maker and building engineer, careers he pursued for many years with dedication and pride.
Bob had a deep love for adventure and travel, whether in his RV or on his motorcycle. He proudly served in the U.S. Navy. While stationed in San Diego, he built a kit car from scratch, and during his time in Japan, he climbed Mount Fuji not once, but twice. A man of many talents, he also taught himself to play guitar, always embracing new challenges with determination and curiosity.
Bob was preceded in death by his parents, Rudy and Gloria; his sister, Nancy; and his son-in-law, Andy. He is survived by his loving wife, Gayle “Gaye”; his sister, Sandra; his children, Kent (Alek), Dana (Travis), and Joelle (Derick); his cherished grandchildren, Hunter and Cheyenne; and his nephew, Michael (Jordan).
A private burial will be held at a later date at Fort Snelling. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Alzheimer’s Association in Bob’s honor.
