Obituary of Sandra Jean Powers
Sandra (Sandy) Jean Powers (Larson) 84, passed away peacefully in her home March 11, 2025 after a brief illness. She was a resident of Wrenshall, MN.
Sandy was born January 22, 1941 in Fosston, MN. She was raised on a farm west of Holyoke, MN. She graduated from Wrenshall High School where she met her future husband, Dennis Powers. They were married January 28, 1961 in Carlton, MN.
She worked in the payroll department of the Diamond Match Company in Cloquet, MN. After the closure of Dennis’ workplace, the Wrenshall Conoco refinery in 1981, the family moved to Moss Bluff, LA. She worked as a Pinkerton Security Guard at the Westlake, LA Conoco refinery and later as a secretary in the refinery’s property tax division. Sandy and Dennis resided in Ponca City, OK from 1988 – 2003.
After retirement, Sandy and Dennis traveled the US as full time “RVers” for five years with a home base in Casa Grande, AZ before moving back to Wrenshall to be near their son and grandchildren.
Sandy loved traveling to dirt track races around the country and all the good friends she made with those possessing similar passion. She enjoyed snowmobiling, dancing, an occasional Chivas Regal and water, and watching high school/college basketball. Sandy discovered she had a hidden talent for and a love for the game of golf in her midlife. Sandy was a member of the Ponca City (OK) Country Club. She was a member of the Moose Lodge #1031. She loved visiting the Black Bear Casino.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Dennis; her parents Orlando and Helen Larson (Solberg); and her brother Wayne Larson.
Sandy is survived by her son Troy (Jill) Powers, Wrenshall; Sister Ersel Schuster, Harvard, IL; Grandson Jonathan Powers, Wrenshall; granddaughter Katie Powers, Minneapolis; several loving in-laws and her furry friend Molly.
Per her requests there will be no memorial services.
