Obituary of Ronald Raymond Schliep

Ronald Raymond Schliep passed away on February 7, 2025, at St. Francis Hospital, Shakopee Minnesota at the age of 78 years old. He was a resident of Shakopee, Minnesota.

Born April 4, 1946, in Dawson, Minnesota, He was the son of Raymond and Dorothy (Johnson) Schliep.

Ron grew up in Louisburg Minnesota where he attended school through 6th grade. He then transitioned over to high school in Appleton Minnesota, graduating in 1964. Ron enlisted in the US Air Force in January 1965 and served his country until December 1968. After discharge, he moved to the Twin Cities and worked in transportation with Key Line Freight and Yellow Freight. Ron met Claudia Knudson in June 1970 in Bloomington Minnesota and were married in Louisburg on August 21, 1971. They welcomed two sons into their lives, Justin and Jason. After his retirement in 2007, Ron and Claudia moved to Ortonville, Minnesota where he continued to work part time for Mark Fraune in the transportation industry until 2023. In May 2024 they returned to the Twin Cities and lived in Shakopee Minnesota.

Ron is a life member of the Bellingham Legion and the Moose Club.

Throughout Ron's life, he enjoyed the game of baseball. He played high school, town team, and on the Air Force semi-pro team in Germany and England. When he moved to the Twin Cities, he played on an Over-35 baseball team. Once his sons started playing baseball, he became their coach until they were young adults.

When Ron returned to his hometown area in retirement he enjoyed living on the lake, fishing with his grandchildren and having a large garden to tend. Ron liked to host yearly fish fry gatherings with family and friends at the lake.

Ron enjoyed hunting with his brothers Steve and Bruce along with his beloved dog Hunter who was always at his side. Bruce introduced him to bow hunting which he loved. Claudia let him hunt as long as he took her to Bingo on Saturdays at the Moose Club.

Ron and Claudia were blessed with 6 grandchildren with 1 more on the way and a bonus grandson. He loved them all so much and enjoyed all their unique personalities. They kept his life busy and full.

Preceded in death by: His parents Ray and Dorothy Schliep. Father in-law and Mother in-law Roy and Cathy Haggart.

Ron is survived by his wife Claudia of Shakopee; children Justin (Melissa) of Shakopee and Jason (Misty) of Rosemount. Six grandchildren: Jacob, Brandon, Claire, Johnny, Madison, Marshall and one step grandchild Baal. Also surviving are two brothers Steve (Lena) Schliep of Council Bluffs Iowa and Bruce (Betsy) Schliep of Prior Lake Minnesota along with many nieces and nephews.

Services will be held Wednesday, February 19th at the Cremation Society of Minnesota (Chapel) , 7110 France Avenue South, Edina Minnesota 55435/ Services will be at 1:00 pm with Visitation one hour prior to service.
