Obituary of Edward Francis Bondy

Edward Francis Bondy of Crystal, age 91, passed away on January 19, 2025. He was born in Brainerd, Minnesota on February 4, 1933 to George and Mary Bondy. As a child, he was given the nickname of “Bud”. Ed spent many summers at his grandmother’s and uncle’s farm near Montgomery, Minnesota.

He attended schools in Brainerd and participated in high school basketball and football. Ed began college at St. Cloud State and was then drafted into the United States Army where he served as a Corporal during the Korean War. He was very proud of his service and even this past Veteran’s Day he wore his Army hat while staying at the rehab center. Ed returned to St. Cloud State to finish his degree.

He had a full career life while employed at various companies and worked in insurance, banking, and the hardware business. Even after retirement, he enjoyed part-time work driving seniors to activities from a local care center.

Through good friends, Ed was put in touch with his loving wife Donna, a former classmate from Brainerd. He moved from Brainerd to the Twin Cities. They were married in 1971 and enjoyed family trips with Jeff and Jon to Disney World and South Dakota.

Ed’s gift was his extraordinary memory, he could remember such specific details about people, places, and experiences. So many stories would include his chuckling while recalling the delightful memories. He also was passionate about sports and was always up-to-date on details, stats, and trivia. He closely followed the Vikings, Twins, Timberwolves, and Gophers. Ed enjoyed playing cards, fishing, and spending time with family on Pelican Lake. He was very active and social and especially loved to visit.

Ed was preceded in death by wife Donna and parents George and Mary Bondy.

He is survived by his loving family: sons and daughters-in-law Jeff and Beth Peterson, Jon and Ann Peterson; grandchildren Amanda Peterson, Alexis Peterson, Ryan and Echo Peterson, Joe and Lindsey Peterson, Brandon and Landon Kucera; great-grandchildren Cayden, Lilyona, Gemma, Micah, Emersyn, Brooklyn, and many loved ones and friends.
