Obituary of Betty Lou Matheson

Betty Lou Matheson (Duncan) 88, passed away on January 30, 2025 at Presbyterian Homes of Bloomington.

Betty Lou was born on May 8,1936 to Howard and Helen Duncan in Forest Lake, MN.

She attended elementary school 1st-4th grade in Wyoming, MN and 5th - 12th grade in Forest Lake, she graduated at Forest Lake High School in 1955.

She attended Charles T Miller Nursing school in St. Paul and graduated in 1957 as an (LPN) License Practical Nurse.  

She worked at Forest Lake, Miller, Chisago Lakes and Midway hospitals, she volunteered for the Red Cross, and also did home care nursing and had a licensed daycare in her Shoreview townhome.

Betty Lou worked at the Dairy Store in Forest Lake with Wendell's brother Lee and he introduced them to each other.  They were married at the Church of Christ in Forest Lake, MN on April 11, 1957.

They had 5 Children: Mary Helen, Michael Donald, Mark William, Matthew John, Maureen Ann.

While the children were growing up she worked as a nurse.  She loved to bake & garden.  She always had fresh bread on the table and a good hearty meat & potato meal on the table every night. The Matheson family attended Crossroads Covenant Church and Temple Baptist Church and eventually Grace Church after the kids were gone.  Betty Lou was a consistent volunteer at the churches she attended in many capacities. 

Betty Lou found her passion for sewing as a young girl but picked up quilting in the middle age years and never stopped.  She made over 100 quilts and wall hangings over the years as well as pot holders, christmas stockings, casserole carriers, etc. She also loved to crochet, she made afgans, hats, mittens, dolls, and kids clothing. 

Betty Lou was preceded in death by her loving husband Wendell of 55 years; her parents; her in-laws, William & Esther Matheson; her brothers, John & Howard Duncan; Sons Michael and Mark Matheson and many other close family members. She is survived by her children Mary (Robert) Schneider, Matthew (Sheri) Matheson and Maureen (Eric) Zaske; her brothers, Charles (Dawn) Duncan and Jack (Cynthia) Duncan; her sisters, Jeanette (Mel) Winnick and Joyce (John) Voxland; 9 grandchildren and 8 great grandchildren; many other extended family members.
