Obituary of Howard Fredrick Arntzen
Howard F. Arntzen, 78, of N St Paul, passed peacefully on Wednesday, January 29, 2025, surrounded by his loved ones.
Howie was born and raised in St. Paul, MN on September 10, 1946, to Howard and Mildred Arntzen. In his youth, Howie ran multiple paper routes to pay for all of his sports activities. He enjoyed being outdoors spending time camping, fishing andboating at many of the MN state parks.
Howie graduated from Monroe High School, class of ’64 and enjoyed being able to reminisce with classmates at their 60thclass reunion in 2024.
Howie met the love of his life, Debbie DuBord, and they were married on April 16, 1971. They made a home in N St. Paul where they raised their daughter Heidi and son Matt. Howie shared his love of sports and the outdoors by taking the family on many camping trips with Lake Carlos being a favorite spot. He also coached many of Heidi’s and Matt’s sports teams. The camping trips and coaching continued with his grandchildren.Among coaching he also enjoyed being a hockey referee and umpiring softball.
Howie worked at 3M for 35 years. During his time at 3M you could often find him at Tartan park playing softball. For the last 23 years you could find Howie in section C19 at the Xcel Energy Center where he loved being an usher for the MN Wild.
Howie was preceded in death by his beloved wife Debbie, parents, and brother-in-law Paul DuBord.
He is survived by his children Heidi (Cindy) and Matt (Dana); grandchildren Garrett, Gavin (Jaida) and Gabriella; his siblings Cheryl, Gary (Jean); brothers-in-law Dave DuBord (Barb), Rick DuBord (Holly), Joe DuBord (Claudia); many nieces and nephews; companion Sue; and many friends.
A celebration of life will be held on Saturday, February 22, 2025, at Eastern Heights Lutheran Church (616 Ruth St N, St Paul). Visitation will be from 10:00am – noon with a service starting at noon.
In celebration of his love for sports we ask you to wear something from your favorite sports team to honor Howie.
