Maureen Audette

Obituary of Maureen Audette

Audette, Maureen Diane (McFerran), age 90, passed away January 12, 2025. Survived by her son Kerry (Jill) Audette and daughter Kristi (Larry) Alman, grandchildren Blake, Katelyn, Benjamin, great granddaughter Morgan, sister Sharon Coates and many other family and friends. Preceded in death by her loving husband of 62 years, Delbert “Bill” Audette, parents Agnes and Dwight McFerran, sisters Vivian Mason and Pat Lund and brother Dwight “Skip” McFerran.

Maureen was born in Blue Earth, Minnesota and grew up in Minneapolis, where she went to West High School and met her high school sweetheart and love of her life, Bill. They were 18 years old when they were married on May 2,1953. Bill entered the Army in 1955 and they moved to Fort Benning, GA. Bill was then transferred to Orleans, France during the Korean Conict. Maureen followed and they lived in France for two years.

When they moved back to the United States, they began their family. Maureen stayed at home to raise her family and was a devoted mother. She attended all of her kids' events which included many concerts, games and programs. After her kids were in school, she began working in various schools in the Bloomington School district and at the Bloomington Education Center. She worked with many wonderful friends.

Maureen loved bowling (she was even a member of the 600 club!). She loved tennis, gardening and being outdoors. She grew vegetables and beautiful owers during the summer. She even canned the vegetables she grew with Bill each fall. She had quite the green thumb. Later in life, Maureen continued to enjoy golfing, playing cards and games, going to the movies and baking with friends and family. She especially liked playing bridge with the friends in her community. Maureen also kept busy volunteering at Hale School in Minneapolis, where her daughter worked. There, she formed lasting and meaningful relationships with students and staff alike. She was affectionately known as the laminating lady by staff, and the principal even referred to her as “the boss!”

Maureen’s greatest joy was spending time with her family. She enjoyed family trips, picnics, weddings and spending time with her children, spouses, and grandchildren and eventually her great granddaughter. She was especially proud to be a great grandma. She cared deeply for her grandchildren - seeing Katelyn and Ben off to school in the mornings and caring for them when they were little. She loved attending all her grandchildren’s sporting events, concerts, school programs, and spending time with them on weekends and the holidays. She especially loved watching Blake play the drums in his school concerts. As they grew older, Maureen loved hearing from her grandchildren and celebrating their accomplishments, big and small. When her great granddaughter was born she even helped to care for her during her first two years of her life!

Maureen was a loving and caring mother, mother-in-law, grandmother, great-grandmother, friend and so much more. She had an uncanny ability to know just what to say - making people feel seen, brightening their day with her wit and providing comfort to her friends and family in times of need. She cared deeply for everyone she met and cherished each and every relationship she had. Maureen had a kind heart and touched the lives of many people with her warmth, generosity, and compassion. She truly was a GEM! She will be missed by everyone that met her.

Funeral service will be held on February 15, 2025 at Prince of Peace Lutheran Church in Burnsville. Visitation at 10am and Funeral at 11am. Private Interment at Fort Snelling Cemetery on February 18th. Memorials preferred to the family.
