Joseph Dwyer

Obituary of Joseph William Dwyer

Joseph William Dwyer, 78, of Brooklyn Park, Minnesota, passed away on January 18, 2025. Born on December 22, 1946, in Brainerd, Minnesota.  He was a devoted family man to wife, Kathy and children Colleen and Steven.

Joe grew up with his brothers and sister playing sports and helping on his grandparent’s farm.  After high school graduation, he pursued higher education at the University of Minnesota where he played baseball and worked as a resident advisor on campus.  After college, he got a job working for Motorola in Chicago, Illinois.  His technological career resulted in many leadership opportunities and for a brief period, he relocated the family to England for a unique chance to live abroad.

He enjoyed hunting and fishing with his family, driving fast and spoiling his grandkids. In the last few years, he became passionate about tracing his family’s genealogy and was able to research a lot of information to be preserved.

Preceded in death by mother, Marjorie, father, James, brother Robert (Bob) and nephew Clint.

He is survived by his wife Kathy Dwyer nee Stack, daughter Colleen Groebner nee Dwyer (Steve) and son Steven Dwyer (Monica), grandchildren Liam, Brigid and bonus grandchild Sebastian. Brother and sister James (Eileen) Dwyer of Brainerd and Lorainne Cash nee Dwyer (Richard) of Brainerd and many nieces and nephews.

A Celebration of Life will be held on March 22, 2025, from 1:00 pm to 4:00 pm at St. Mathias Park Building (located between the two ball fields) 4548 County Road 121 Fort Ripley, MN 56449.

In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the Brainerd Warrior baseball team.

We find comfort in knowing his legacy lives on in the memories of his family and friends.  Additionally, Joe, a democrat until the end, timed his passing to avoid the inauguration of the 47th president.
