Obituary of Elaine Habeger

Elaine Habeger, 97, of Golden Valley, MN, passed away on January 16, 2025 at St. Therese of Corcoran, Corcoran, MN. She was born Elaine Lucille Beach on September 19, 1927 to Ella (Mattson) and William Beach, in Nevis, MN. She graduated from Gregg College in 1948. She met the love of her life, Robert Habeger on April 6, 1952 and they married January 17, 1953. Elaine and Bob raised their three sons in Golden Valley.

Elaine spent her early married life raising her three boys. Once they were old enough to be trusted on their own, she attended classes in Braille. She was accepted as a volunteer Braille Transcriber by the Library of Congress. She enjoyed the work but found it very time consuming. She attended a Career Clinic for Mature Women and honed her typing and office skills. With her refreshed skills, she took a secretarial position in the City of Crystal Health Department retiring in 1979.

Elaine will be remembered for her sewing skills, creative gift giving, and her cooking and hosting artistry. She always seemed to know the proper thing to say or do.

Most of all Elaine loved her family, especially her grandchildren and great-grandchildren. Near the end, she had trouble remembering anything that happened a few minutes ago but never forgot the names of her family and relatives. She always wanted the latest news on what was going on in everyone’s life.

In her later years she loved to read and do crosswords. Whenever you talked to her caregivers, they would always tell us what a wonderful woman she was. She had a dry sense of humor. When asked if she was in pain, her reply was, “No, I don’t permit it.” When asked if she wanted to join in any group activities her reply was, “I don’t recreate.”

Elaine was preceded in death by her husband Bob, her brothers Bill and Ray Beach, and her daughter-in-law Shirley Habeger. She is survived by children Robert (Pamela) Habeger, Donald (Carol) Habeger, Thomas Habeger, grandchildren Ryan (Katie), Brice (Charissa), Nathaniel (Sarah) and Aaron (Kelly), great-grandchildren, Charlie, Micah, Lylah, Selah, Aiden, Norah, Jon, Judah, and Eleanor.

Elaine will be cremated and a family service will occur at a date to be determined.

The family would like to give special thanks to the warm and caring staff of Havenwood of Maple Grove and St. Therese of Corcoran. Their love, excellent care, companionship and compassion for Elaine is deeply appreciated.
