Obituary of John "Butch" Stephen Sternal
It is with deep sorrow and love that we announce the passing of John "Butch" Stephen Sternal who left us on December 18, 2024, at the age of 87. He was a cherished father, grandfather, husband, brother, and friend, whose kindness and joy touched all who knew him. He was a long-time foreman at Enger Park Golf Course working for the City of Duluth Parks and Recreation. He loved the outdoors, spending time with family and friends, golfing, fishing, and feeding the birds.
As a father, he was a source of wisdom, support, and comfort. His warm embrace and joyful spirit will be deeply missed. We will forever carry his memory in our hearts. His legacy of kindness, integrity, and joy will continue to live on in those who were fortunate enough to know and love him.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Stephen and Eleanor “Lil”; beloved wife, Dolores; brothers, Robert and William.
He is survived by his children: David (Natalie), Lynn (Dane), LouAnn (Stephen), Greg, and Donna (Daniel); 11 grandchildren; 9 great grandchildren; sister, Marilyn; and several nieces and nephews.
His Family would like to extend sincere appreciation for the kindness and loving support given him by the staff of the Benedictine Marywood Care Facility.
A celebration of his life will be held on Friday May 23, 2025, 11 AM with a visitation one hour prior at the Cremation Society, 4100 Grand Ave, Duluth, MN; where we will come together and honor the wonderful man he was.
Rest in peace dad. Your kindness and love will never be forgotten. We’ll feed the birds for you.
