Obituary of Anthony Jerald Coda
Anthony J. Coda
3/6/1945-1/16/2025
Anthony Jerald Coda, born March 6, 1945, in Superior Wisconsin, to Anthony L. “Kitty” Coda and Dorothy A. Coda, passed away January 16, 2025 peacefully at home with his loving wife of 53 years by his side, Mary S. Coda.
Tony was raised in Superior, WI and enjoyed his youth with family and friends, attending St. Adalbert’s Catholic school and then graduating from Superior Cathedral High School in 1963. He was a standout athlete in basketball and football and participated in musical and theatrical productions. Tony sailed the Great Lakes and the oceans working on ore boats for six years, while attending college. A 1970 UW-Superior graduate, Tony had a successful career in sales and was fond of helping people and solving problems.
A member of the Lester Park United Methodist Church, from 1975 to 2018, Tony served in the Leadership, the choir and LPUMC Men’s Club.
Tony was an assistant Scout Master of Troop 44 in Duluth, MN and was a member of the Commissioners Board of the Voyagers Area Boy Scout Council. He was grateful for every Boy Scout who crossed his path and extremely proud of the accomplished Eagle Scouts in his time including his two sons, one grandson, four nephews and one great-nephew.
Tony’s greatest gift was his bold and beautiful tenor voice. He performed in high school concerts, operettas and competed in state competitions. He entertained family and friends at celebrations as well as piano bars of the 70s. He loved every minute of singing, was a member of the Lester Park United Methodist Church choir for over 43 years, and his last performance was during mass at his 60th Superior Cathedral High School reunion in 2023.
Tony’s endless joy came from the life he shared with Mary, with whom he raised three children: Lori, Doug and Mike. He will forever be remembered for his love of entertaining and cooking, along with hunting, fishing, playing cards (especially cribbage), enjoying family time at the cabin and lake, and for his sense of humor and positive encouragement to others. He is preceded in death by his parents, and siblings Janice Foerst, James Coda and Peter Coda. He is survived by his wife, Mary, his three children and their spouses: Lori Peterson (Chad), Douglas Coda (Shelly), and Michael Coda (Brenda), six grandchildren: Sarah Hirsch (TJ), Maxwell Peterson, Hailey Coda, Zachary Peterson, Auston Crist and Dylan Crist; and two great grandchildren, Chloe and Hayden Hirsch.
A memorial service will be held on Jan 28, 2025, at Minnesota Cremation Society in Duluth with visitation at 1pm, service at 2pm and reception to follow. The family would like to thank the entire oncology team of Dr. Dan Nikcevich at Essentia health for their care and support of Tony. Donations in Tony’s honor may be made to the Memorial Blood Center in Duluth, MN, to help others fighting blood diseases.
