Obituary of John M. Nading
John “Mickey” M. Nading of Cloquet, MN, formerly of Duluth, MN, passed away on January 10th, 2025, with his loving family by his side.
John was born on November 28th, 1934, to Merle and Anne Nading in Moose Lake, MN. He married the love of his life Kathleen “Kathy” Hartmark on June 17, 1961. He graduated from Denfeld High School, Business School and also attended The University of Minnesota Duluth. He was employed by the DM&IR Railroad for 40 years, having worked in various capacities, before retiring in 1992. John served in the U.S. Marine Corps and was honorably discharged in 1956. He was a lifetime member of the Disabled American Veterans.
As a youth, he played hockey and fast pitch softball. Later in life, golf became a passion. He played in various golf leagues and recorded two career hole-in-ones. John’s faith was with his Savior, he regularly attended Our Savior’s Lutheran Church in Cloquet, MN.
John is survived by his loving wife, Kathleen; daughter, Dawn (Jens) Kirkegaard; sons, Jeffrey Nading and Craig Nading; grandsons, Erik Lennartson, Karsten Lennartson and Shawn Kirkegaard; brother, Robert Nading; sister, Patricia Cohen; several brothers and sisters-in-law; along with numerous nieces and nephews.
John was preceded in death by his parents, Merle and Anne Nading; stepbrother, Owen; Father-in-law, Reverend Einar Hartmark and wife, Luella.
John loved his family dearly and took special pride in the accomplishments of his daughter, sons and grandsons. He will be deeply missed.
A Celebration of Life will be held Thursday, May 15th, 2025, with a visitation at 1:00 pm and service at 2:00 pm, at the Cremation Society of Minnesota, 4100 Grand Ave, in Duluth. John’s final resting place will be at the Minnesota State Veteran’s Cemetery in Saginaw with Military Honors at the cemetery.
