Steven Lee Smith, age 86, passed away peacefully on January 6, 2025. He was preceded in death by his parents, Ardelia and Lee Roy Smith, sister Sis Pell, and his beloved wife Dianne. He is survived by his daughter Stephanie, granddaughter Kiley, and many nieces and nephews and extended family. 

An avid golfer, he spent countless hours on the course with his cherished golf buddies. His enthusiasm for the sport was matched only by his dedication to education and coaching. Steve spent many years teaching and mentoring students at Hopkins Schools, where he was known for his unwavering commitment to his students’ growth and success. He also coached several sports, instilling values of teamwork, perseverance, and integrity in all those he mentored.

Above all, Steve was a devoted husband, father, and grandfather. His family was his greatest joy, and his love for Dianne, Stephanie, and Kiley was boundless. He loved them to the moon and back.

Following the service, we’ll continue the celebration of a golfer’s life well lived at the Chaska Town Course.

Bring your favorite club—the putting green will be open, and Steve wouldn’t want you to miss a great opportunity to sink one.
