Donna Lee Schoon (née Stoner) passed away peacefully on December 30th, 2024, at the Cokato Manor Nursing Home. She was born on July 3rd, 1942, in Litchfield, Minnesota, to Donald and Alice (Schilt) Stoner. Tragically, four months after her birth, her mother passed away, and her father was serving in the Army during World War II. During his service time, Donna went to live in Litchfield with her father’s sister, Grace, while her older sister, Sandra, lived with their mother’s family in Cokato. After the war, her father remarried, and the family reunited to live in Dassel, Minnesota.
Donna graduated from Dassel High School in 1960 and attended Cosmetology School in Minneapolis, where she worked afterward. It was in Minneapolis that she met Eugene Schoon, who came looking to borrow some popcorn—a fateful encounter that would lead to their marriage on August 22nd, 1964.
Beyond her professional career she was a dedicated housewife and homemaker, an awesome cook and baker, an expert seamstress, and even made a wedding dress. Donna's talents extended to crocheting and quilting, creating many beautiful blankets and garments. Beyond her homemaking skills, enjoyed riding bicycles, was a Cub Scout Den Mother, a daycare provider to many children, and a second mother to countless others.
Donna was a beloved sister, sister-in-law, and aunt. She was a proud mother to five ornery children and a cherished grandmother. Her family was her greatest joy, and she loved spending time with them, watching Minnesota Gophers football and basketball, and listening to music, which was usually Elvis.
Preceded in death by her husband, mother, father, stepmother, three brothers, four brother-in-laws, one sister-in-law, three nieces and one nephew. Donna is survived by her children: Dwayne and Nancy, Kristin and Chuck, Verna and Tom, Aaron and Matthew, and Allison. She also leaves behind 13 grandchildren, 25 great grandchildren and two great-great grandchildren. Additionally, Donna is survived by five sisters, three brothers, nine sister-in-laws, and many nieces and nephews.
