Obituary of Jeannine Mary Maiers

Jeannine Mary (Putney) Maiers was born on May 27, 1933, the daughter of PK (Percy) and Veronica Putney. She passed away at Hutchinson Health Hospital on January 2, 2025, at the age of 91.

Jeannine grew up and went to school in Buffalo Lake, MN. As a child she enjoyed spending time with her sister, Jessie Ann and spent much of her young life working alongside her dad at the family drug store – Putney Drug.

Jeannine married Stan Maiers on July 28, 1951. Following Stan’s service in the US Army, Stan and Jeannine moved to their family farm outside Stewart, MN where they were farmers for more than 35 years. Stan and Jeannine had two daughters, Pat and Monica and two sons, Mark, and Anthony.

In addition to working on the family farm and raising a family, Jeannine held several part-time jobs which included working at the Stewart Meat Market and at a local furniture store. She found these jobs to be both interesting and a wonderful way to visit with friends. Jeannine was also an active member of St. Boniface Catholic Church, serving her faith community in any way that she could.

In 1988 Jeannine and Stan moved to a town home in Hutchinson, MN. Together they enjoyed spending time with their friends at the casino and frequent get-togethers over coffee. In late 2022, Jeannine’s declining health resulted in her moving to the Health Care Center in Buffalo Lake, MN. As a resident, she enjoyed making new friends and spending time with old friends from the area. She also enjoyed spending time playing bingo and attending the prayer services that were offered.

Throughout her life, Jeannine delighted in spending time with her grandchildren and their spouses, her great-grandchildren, and her great-great granddaughter. She was proud of each of them and happily attended their music and sporting activities, birthday parties and other events when she was able to do so. Visits from each of them were welcomed and “Grandma Jeannine” never let any of them leave her home without a special treat of some kind.

Jeannine is remembered as a strong woman of faith, a loving parent and caregiver, a woman with a sharp and witty sense of humor and a person with an amazing memory.

Jeannine is survived by her children, Monica (Don Johnston), Mark (Cindy), Anthony (Kristine) and by grandchildren, Eric (Sommer) Day, Christopher Day (Dan Zwick), Wilson Maiers, Payton (Brad) Eastman, Hudson (Jess) Maiers and Chase Maiers. She is also survived by great-grandchildren Spencer and Bailey Day, Olivia and Cooper Eastman, great-great-granddaughter Atlas Williamson, her sister Jessie Ann Ludowese and by her sisters-in-law Therese Kuttner, Sr. Gen Maiers OSB, Sr. Gracemarie Maiers OSB, and Phyllis Maiers.

Jeannine is preceded in death by her husband Stan, her daughter Pat, and her parents, PK and Veronica Putney.

She will be missed, and her memory will be cherished forever.

The family asks that memorials be given to St. Boniface Catholic Church in Stewart, MN.
