Obituary of Gregory Schramm

Gregory Joseph Schramm (age 65), of Duluth, MN, passed away unexpectedly in his home, December 30th at about 6:30PM. Greg was born on June 22nd, 1959 in Duluth, MN . He is the first-born son to Bernice and Donald Schramm, both of Duluth. Greg grew up on Jefferson St with his family, attending Duluth East High School until he began working for Crown Auto (1977). Greg was a natural with customers and truly enjoyed the problem-solving that his work entailed. He continued to work in the auto parts industry, later for Jackson’s and then for Napa Auto Parts until he had a stroke in 2019. After that, he returned to Napa part-time before retiring. Greg has three children (Rikki, Randi and Ronnie), from a previous marriage, with whom he enjoyed outdoor activities; lots of boating and fishing trips, snowmobiling, etc. He loved watching any and every sport, but especially loved basketball, football and NASCAR.  

 Greg grew up camping with his family, he had many fond memories of camping at Jacobson and Island Beach, and of family gatherings at his parent’s cabin on Lake Wilson. Greg loved fishing at Island Lake, where he later had a cabin for several years. Greg loved becoming a Grandpa more than anything. He was a wonderful Grandpa. He passed on the traditions of fishing and fires to the grandkids and so many other cherished memories they will never forget. Greg enjoyed grilling food and having people over, (especially to have a bonfire) and he lived for family time during the holidays. He also had a very special bond with his dogs, his best friends. Greg was a father, son, brother, uncle, cousin and friend. He led with integrity and a strong work ethic, in which his children still benefit from today. Our time with him has been cut too short and we are all feeling his absence in our hearts.  

He is survived by his mother, Bernice Schramm of Duluth; his daughters, Rikki and Randi Omdahl, both of Duluth; and son, Ron Omdahl of Duluth; brothers, Ken Schramm of Duluth and Stephen (Kathy) Schramm of Duluth; sister, Annette (Terry) Debartolo of Duluth; nephew, Paul Schramm of Duluth; niece, Stephanie Schramm of Duluth; nephew, Donovan Debartolo of Duluth; nephew, Dylan Debartolo of Duluth; nephew, Michael Debartolo of Duluth; great-nieces Lily and Hannah; grandchildren, Orion and Aila, both of Duluth. Greg also had several cousins and friends who loved him. He will be deeply missed by those who loved him.

Greg is preceded in death by father, Donald Charles Schramm, of Duluth; and grandparents, Veronica (Vi) and Archie(Bud) Randall;  grandparents, Albert and Olga Schramm.
