Charlie passed away peacefully at home with his family on 12/26/24 after (2) separate battles with cancer.

On 5/2/1948 Charlie was born to Max Edward Albert Witt and Eleanore Louise (Boelling) Witt.

Charlie was born in Redwood, Minnesota. During his childhood he lived in Fairfax, Renville, and Winthrop Minnesota with his parents and (3) brothers, Robert, Donald, and Kenneth. He worked with his family in numerous businesses and vividly talked about the chicken hatchery where he worked hard alongside his family.

After moving from Winthrop, Minnesota to Minneapolis Charlie attended Hamline University in St. Paul, Minnesota where he enjoyed and excelled in playing basketball and football. After attending Hamline and living in Minneapolis he joined the Merchant Marines and traveled overseas.

He was an enthusiastic conversationalist and had many stories about being stationed in Vietnam and his experiences working in a country that he described as “beautiful.”

When Charlie returned home to the United States, he joined the Ironworkers Local 512 in 1978 as a Journeymen, he was proud to be an Iron Worker and took advantage of many career opportunities the local had to offer. In 1984 he was the locals Recording Secretary, in 1995 he became the local 512s first Market Recovery Director and in 2002 Charlie was elected Business Manager Financial Secretary/Treasurer before retiring in 2011.

When he was not working Charlie enjoyed cooking, walking nature trails, driving in the country, reading novels from all genres, especially mysteries and history. Charlie also enjoyed spending time with his family and friends engaging in spirited conversations over a well-cooked meal.

Charlie was an avid Philanthropist and donated to many charities, including the Angel Foundation where his donations helped many cancer patients.

Charlie was preceded in death by his parents Max Edward Albert Witt, Eleanor Louise (Boelling) Witt and his brother Robert (Bob) Witt.

Charlie is survived by his wife, Benita Ritchie-Witt. brothers, Donald Witt (Kathie) and Kenneth Witt. His children, Chris Wahl, Jason Heiderscheidt (Pam), Anna Witt (Jim), Adam Witt (Rosa) and Nathan (Nate) Witt, (9) grandchildren, sister -in - law, Margaret (Maggie) Witt, sister-in-Law, Rosvlyn Ritchie – Hill, brother-in-law James D. Beasley and a host of nieces, nephews’, other family members and friends.

Also, missing Charlie are his best buddies and pup pups Sassy and Rocky.

An announcement regarding a “Celebration of Life” for Charlie will be determined by the family later in 2025.
