Obituary of Ann Dumas Stefanson
In Loving Memory of Ann Dumas Stefanson
July 5, 1939 - December 24, 2024
Ann Dumas Stefanson passed away peacefully on December 24, 2024, under the loving care of the staff at the Brighton Hospice. She leaves behind a legacy of helping others - and family and friends who will miss her dearly.
Growing up close to nature, on a farm in rural Manitoba, Canada, she quickly developed a deep caring for animals along with a compassionate nature. That empathy informed her career path as she earned a Master of Social Work degree from the University of Manitoba and became licensed from the Minnesota State Board as a practitioner of Marriage and Family Therapy. As a social worker and registered psychologist, she dedicated her professional life to supporting individuals and families through their challenges, offering guidance and understanding. She took pride in making a meaningful contribution to the health and wellbeing of others.
Ann embraced a rich life beyond her vocation. She always had a vibrant social circle and valued forming deep bonds with those she loved. She looked forward to her annual vacations to the Caribbean Islands, going "home" to the farm to visit family, her time at The Beach Club at Bde Maka Ska (Lake Calhoun), was always on top of the latest movies coming to theatres, loved new dining experiences and cared diligently for her pet cats.
Ann was predeceased by parents Steve and Alice Stefanson, brother Douglas, and sisters Jonina Klingbell and Norma Caskenette.
She is survived by sister Patricia Stefanson (William McVeigh) and many nieces and nephews. Her family is exceptionally grateful to special friends Barb, Tina and Deb for continuing to provide love and support up until her last days.
Ann, there's no doubt that the world has been left a better place for having you in it. Rest easy.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be made to organizations that support mental health services, continuing Ann's lifelong mission of helping others.
