Obituary of James Alexander LeTourneau
James A. LeTourneau passed away on Saturday, December 14, 2024, in the loving company of his wife Sharlene, and his son Jimmy.
Jim was born in Park Falls, Wisconsin on June 10, 1936 to Randolph and Ruth LeTourneau. He graduated from high school in Fifield, Wisconsin, in 1954. He enlisted in the US Army, and served in France following World War II. Jim later attended Wisconsin State College-Superior, graduating with a Bachelor of Arts degree.
He worked in Wisconsin before moving to Alaska. He was employed by the Department of Transportation for the state of Alaska, until his retirement. He lived his retirement years between Eagle, Alaska, and Gunflint Lake, Minnesota.
Jim was preceded in death by his daughters Kathleen (Kathy) and Patricia (Patty). He is survived by his wife Sharlene; Brother Tom LeTourneau (Amy) of Elgin, Illinois; Sons James E. LeTourneau of Grand Marais, and Chad David (Ariana) of Fairbanks, Alaska; Niece Alana Placzkowski (Patrick); Step-children Geri Heston (Donn Eliason), Greg Gecas (Barb) and Jeff Gecas (Susan), all of Grand Marais, MN, and Tom Cleary of Riverside, CA; One grand-nephew, twelve grandchildren, and twelve great-grandchildren. He is also survived by many friends in the places that he lived, particularly Eagle, Alaska.
A memorial service will be planned for sometime in the summer of 2025.
The family would like to thank the amazing staff at the Silver Bay Veterans Home, where Jim resided for the last three years. We greatly appreciate the loving care that they gave to Jim.
