Obituary of Kathy Severson
Kathryn “Kathy” Alice Severson
Kathryn Alice Severson, 69, of Duluth, Minnesota died peacefully on Sunday, December 8, 2024 at St. Luke’s Hospital with her family by her side.
Kathy was born on December 23, 1954 in Duluth, Minn to Edwin and Gloria Tuttle. She grew up in Hermantown, Minn. and loved spending time with her friends listening to music and going roller skating.
Kathy joined the military shortly after high school. Beginning in April 1975 and ending in June of 1987, she spent several years as a Staff Sergeant in the United States Air Force. While in the military, Kathy had the opportunity to travel around the world, living in England for several years. She never lost her love for travel.
Kathy worked for the St. Louis County Sheriff’s Department for many years as a records clerk. She enjoyed the work she did and the people she worked with.
Kathy had 2 children: Christopher and Dawn. On November 21, 2003, she married Mark Severson. They were together for over 30 years and were devoted to each other every day. They spent their time traveling, listening to music, and going to concerts whenever they could.
In 2012, Kathy became a breast cancer survivor. Her strength throughout her treatment was commendable and she never missed a step. She fought hard and won.
Kathy loved reading, knitting, doing puzzles (and building Lego kits), and spending time with her family. She was (almost) always willing to try new things, and especially liked shopping (even though she could never decide what to buy).
Kathy is survived by her husband Mark; her children, Christopher Klister, Dawn (Phil) Bacon, and step-daughter, Heather Low; 3 grandchildren, Brittany, Brooke, and Christopher Jr.; two step-grandchildren, Ryker and Ryleigh Bachmann, as well as one great-grandchild, Amaryah. She is also survived by her sister, Laurie (Dale) Paszak, and several nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Edwin and Gloria; her brother, Edwin Jr., and sister, Patricia.
Kathy will be dearly missed and remembered for her great love of family and her ability to drive you crazy, yet make you laugh at the same time. She was always a joy to be around. She was a devoted mother and a loving wife who passed before she could give the full extent of her wisdom.
There will be a small reception for close friends and family on Friday, December 20, 2024 at the Cremation Society in Duluth, Minn at 10:30am.
