Hugh Flatley, age 91, passed away Thursday, April 11, 2024 in the Silver Bay Veterans Home.

He was born to Joseph and Mae (Cooke) Flatley on December 27, 1932 in Duluth. He was raised and attended school in Lakewood. He was in the Army, stationed in Germany. He began work as a roofer, then construction, retiring from Nels Nelsons & Sons. His greatest passion was working in the woods and making friends with the deer.

He was preceded in death by his parents; brother, Laurence; and sister, Anne Rones.

Hugh is survived by his wife of 68 years, Marilyn (Jackson); daughters, Jolene Jauert and Charlene (Tod) McCannell; son, Michael (Lori); sisters, Nancy Gerard, Peggy Davey and Keryl (Jim) Adams; grandchildren, Karyn Hutchings, David (Michelle) Hedin, Layton Hedin, Allison (Tony Biskey) McCannell, Jacob McCannell, Caitlyn (Ty Lisell) Flatley, Mikayla (Dylan Gray) Flatley; and five great-grandchildren with one on the way.

The family would like to thank the staff at Silver Bay Veterans Home for the loving care they provided Hugh.

Memorial Service will be 3:00 p.m., Saturday, May 4, 2024, at the Cremation Society of Minnesota, 4100 Grand Ave. with a visitation one hour prior. In lieu of flowers or memorials, please consider donating to the Silver Bay Veterans Home activities fund.
