Obituary of Jean E. Sundstrom

Jean E. Sundstrom, 81, of Hermantown, MN, passed away after battling multiple myeloma on Wednesday, February 3, 2021. Born August 20, 1939, to Jarl and Lorraine Johnson, Jean graduated from Duluth Denfeld High School in 1957. She married Wayne Sundstrom in 1959.

Following her graduation from Duluth Denfeld High School, Jean attended the University of Minnesota Duluth. She worked many years in the Activities Department at Chris Jenson Nursing Home as an activities aide. Afterward, she attended Duluth Vo-Tech and earned her LPN license. Jean retired from St. Luke’s Hospital after many years of dedicated service.

Jean remained active throughout her life. She and her husband Wayne raised their four children in Proctor. Jean was active in her children’s activities and eventually enjoyed following her grandchildren’s activities. Jean enjoyed her membership with the Rosemaling Society. She regularly painted and created many pieces of artistic heirlooms to be enjoyed by her children and grandchildren. Jean also enjoyed many luncheons with her friends and classmates.

She is preceded in death by her husband Wayne, her parents, her in-laws, and her brothers. She is survived by her four children and their families; Robin (Doug) Johnson, Megan Helmer, Lindsay and Nick Downey, Hannah and Jaryn Edblad; Karen (Cathy Hunter) Sundstrom, Ian (Nichole) Sundstrom; Tim (Cynthia) Sundstrom and Haley, Hanna and Alex Beane, Lindsey, and Eric; and Julie (Dan) Stauber and Nora (Scott) Lieser, Owen (Mikaela) and great-granddaughter Cecelia, and Natalie; as well as many nieces and nephews.

Due to Covid-19 restrictions, a limited service will be held on Saturday, February 13, 2021, at Christ Lutheran Church, in Duluth, Minnesota.
