Obituary of Mary Carol Headrick

Headrick, Mary Carol (Muzetras) age 74, died on May 18, 2020, a couple hours after the 51st wedding anniversary to her husband, George, who preceded her in death less than two months ago. Mary is survived by her three sons: Michael (Deirdre), Marc (Christine) and Matthew (Cassandra); seven grandchildren: Aidan, Liam, Grace, Leighton, Mena, Madeline and Penelope; siblings George Muzetras (Sharon) and Margaret Roth (Tim) and many cousins, nieces, nephews and friends. Mary grew up in South Minneapolis, the daughter of Carol (Oleson) and Gust Muzetras, and graduated from Washburn High School, where she met George, with whom she was inseparable. A lifelong Gopher, Mary received her undergraduate and master's degrees from the University of Minnesota. A beloved teacher to so many, she taught art at Ramsey Junior High and Anthony Middle School in Minneapolis. A talented artist, throughout her life she created a vast and beautiful collection of watercolor paintings treasured by her family and friends. Her family and friends also benefited from the beautifully knit blankets and clothing she made, along with her annual holiday dough ornaments. She regretted the lack of sports accessible to women during her youth, and made up for it as an adult as an avid cyclist, runner, skier and regular at Lifetime Fitness in Chanhassen (where she met her Lifetime family). Mary was her sons' #1 fan and an adoring grandmother and YaYa who loved nothing more than extracting stories from her grandsons, beating her granddaughters at dominoes, and spending time together at their cabin on Star Lake. Mary was an ardent and hard-working gardener, making plans for her massive Star Lake garden through her final days. A lifelong teacher, she shared her many talents with her grandchildren, from art to knitting, sewing and gardening. Mary was beautiful inside and out with an ever-present sparkle in her eyes and mischievous grin, and will be missed immensely for her warm- heartedness, humor, homemade treats and hugs. Throughout the last four years Mary fought a truly inspirational battle against breast cancer, barging through each chemo treatment with a new painting, demonstrating strength, perseverance and positivity every step of the way. Special thanks to her team at the Mayo Clinic, with deep gratitude to Amanda, with whom Mary shared a special bond. A joint memorial for George and Mary will be planned at a later date. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Arthritis Foundation at arthritis.org or the Mayo Clinic at philanthropy.mayoclinic.org
