Obituary of Peter Michael Sanders

Peter Michael Sanders, 38, passed away unexpectedly on Friday, July 19, 2019 in Duluth Mn. He was born on July 2, 1981 in Minneapolis, MN. He moved with his family to Cheyenne, WY at age 8. At 13, the family moved to Duluth. He attended Ordean Middle School and graduated from East High School in 2000 where he played football. His coach said he was absolutely the toughest player he ever coached and yet the nicest guy off the field. Pete served in the Army Reserve from 2004 to 2012, being deployed to Iraq from 2005-2006. At basic training, he met his future wife Casey Thoemke, whom he married on March 13, 2010 in Fargo, ND. They have one child, Eleanor, 4 ½ years old. Pete continued his love for football and sports, and developed a love of running, participating in the Fargo and Grandma’s Half Marathons. He enjoyed the challenges of these events. Pete had a quick wit and a ready chuckle. He was always ready to help anyone. He had an enviable tender side. Most of all though, was his love for his daughter Eleanor. That love was reflected in her as she adored him. Pete is survived by his ex-wife, Casey Sanders and daughter, Eleanor. His parents Craig and Debbie Sanders, his sister, Emily (Rob) Raleigh, and brother Tim (Lisa) Sanders. He is also survived by four nieces, Linnea, Mabel, Grace, and Gloria and by one nephew, Oscar, all of Duluth. Visitation will be Monday, July 29, 2019 from 6:00 to 8:00 p.m. and Tuesday, July 30, 2019 at 10:00 a.m. His funeral service will be at 11:00 a.m. on Tuesday following the visitation. Both the visitation and funeral will be at Lutheran Church of the Good Shepherd, 1325 N. 45th Avenue East in Duluth. Internment is planned at the Minnesota Veterans’ Cemetery at a later date to be announced. An additional time of remembrance is planned for Fargo, ND on Friday, July 25th at Lindenwood Park at a pavilion. Time: 5:30 to 7:30 PM. Hot dogs, chips and such will be provided.
