Obituary of Elizabeth Victoria Koenig
Koenig, Elizabeth Victoria Joined the Lord Jesus on December 2, 2014. Her parents, Elizabeth Busch Koenig & Harold F. Koenig, sister Emily Koenig Gaitley (John) and nephew Robert Koenig preceded her. Survived by sisters Katherine Koenig and Barbara Koenig, brothers Harold F. Koenig (Linda) and Lawrence A. Koenig, nephews Mark Koenig and Benjamin Koenig, nieces Janet Gaitley Jungbauer (William), Julie Gaitley Wilkerson (Dennis), Jennifer Koenig Greenwood (Mark), great-nephews Jeffrey Wilkerson, Connor Greenwood, and great-nieces Kirstin Koenig Hockert (Adam), Courtney Koenig, and Jenna Wilkerson. Elizabeth attended Minneapolis Public Schools and the University of Minnesota (B.S. and M.A.). She taught elementary grades in Richfield for two years and Minneapolis Public Schools (Robert Fulton - Lake Harriet Upper Campus) for 37 years. Elizabeth became involved with the ESL (English as a Second Language) program in Bloomington for several years and spent two, three week periods in Siedlce Province, Poland teaching English under a program combining teaching and traveling with Global Volunteers. A five week course at the Goethe Institute in Rothenburg ob der Tauber contributed to the culture and language German day camp classes, Elizabeth taught at the Volksfest Haus in St. Paul. Summers were spent taking classes at Columbia University Teacher's College, Augsburg College, University of Minnesota, and Hamline University. Elizabeth also enjoyed volunteering at the Richfield Historical Society. Reading, gardening, crafts and traveling were special interests. She visited Europe many times with family members and enjoyed river cruises and trips sponsored by the Arboretum. Memorial service Friday, December 5 at 11:00 a.m. at Woodlake Lutheran Church Chapel, 7525 Oliver Avenue South, Richfield with visitation one hour prior.
