Obituary of James K. Roberts

Roberts, James K. Age 90 from Edina, passed away peacefully on Dec. 2nd, 2014, surrounded by his loving family. James served in the US Army, 8th Air Force, 349th bomb squadron, 100th bomb group (bloody 100th) as a radio operator, waist gunner on board B-17 Flying Fortress aircraft. James flew 22 bombing missions over Germany and was shot down over German occupied France. He was discharged in 1945 and ran a successful insurance business post war. He enjoyed his lake home at Lake Sylvia, MN and traveled the world during retirement. He was the best of America's greatest generation. All will miss him. He was preceded in death by mother, Alberta; father, Frank; and younger brother, Thomas. Survived by loving wife of 68 years, Helen; son, Gary (Cathy); daughter, Nancy; grandchildren, Tony (Katie), Jessica (David) Gross, Amanda (Ed) Martin; 7 great-grandchildren and many other family members and friends. A Memorial Service will be held at Saint Stephen's Episcopal Church, 4439 West 50th St., Edina at 10:00AM on Sat., Dec. 20, 2014. Interment at Lakewood Cemetery will be held at 1:00PM after the Memorial Service. Memorials preferred to American Cancer Society.
