Obituary of Marilynn Andrene Kessler

Marilynn Andrene (Hauer) Kessler went home to be with her Lord on Dec. 15, 2014 at the Benedictine Health Center. Marilynn was born in Duluth to Earl and Ruth Hauer on Sept. 10, 1935. She graduated from Denfeld High School. She married Roy Meyer, an air force pilot, and they made their home on several bases around the country before returning home to raise their three children. Marilynn opened the Corner Cupboard Gift Shop on the North Shore, which she ran for 35 years. She also worked at the Kirby Student Center at UMD from 1981 to 1994. In 1982, she married John Kessler, and together they welcomed 16 grandchildren. Marilynn was a gifted artist and musician, playing the piano, accordion, and harp. She loved knitting, crocheting, writing, cooking, and entertaining. She was very active in her church and community. Marilynn was extremely proud of her Norwegian heritage and cherished her family, especially her role as Gramma. She was preceded in death by her parents. Marilynn is survived by her husband John; children, Keith (Jillayne) Meyer of Shakopee, Minn., Curtis (Cindy) Meyer of Santa Clarita, Calif., and Marjorie (Timothy) Gottwalt of Trinity, N.C.; step-children, Kristin (Guy) DeGalard of Wyoming, Mary Beth (Erick) Kjolhaug of Duluth, Greg (Sally) Kessler of Alaska and Andrea (Charlie) Snow of Minnesota; 16 grandchildren; brothers, Warren Hauer of Wisconsin, Jack (Shar) Hauer of Minneapolis and Jim (Becky) Hauer of Wisconsin. GATHERING OF FAMILY AND FRIENDS: 10 a.m. until the 11 a.m. service on Thursday, Dec. 18, 2014 in French River Lutheran Church, 5310 Ryan Road. Burial will be at Forest Hill Cemetery.
