Lawrence Charles Byrnes, 86, affectionately known as "LB", passed away August 5, 2017, surrounded by loved ones. He was born August 18, 1930 in Rice Lake, WI, to Stephen and Elsie Byrnes. He married Charlene Swatzina on September 17, 1955 and moved to Silver Bay, MN, where he worked at Reserve Mining, the City of Silver Bay, and Lake County where he retired as a Deputy Sheriff. He proudly served his country in the Army and Air Force, was a member of the Knights of Columbus and VFW, and was a 2015 Honor Flight participant. He was a longtime member of St. Mary's Catholic Church and enjoyed Saturday evening mass. LB was preceded in death by his parents; wife of 54 years, Charlene; grandsons Jeremy and Kenny; brothers Joseph, Kenneth and Dewayne; and sisters Norma and Kathleen. He is survived by sons Jeff (Patty) and Tom (Shelly) of Silver Bay, Kelly (Amber) of Redwing, and Tim (Dixie) of Hermantown; 10 grandchildren, 18 great grandchildren and Pa's Lady Friend, Sharon Stauss. LB will be dearly missed by all who knew him, young and old alike. His gift of conversation, friendliness to all, and ability to provide advice on the best way to do most every task will be fondly remembered. A Celebration of Life will be held at St. Mary's Catholic Church in Silver Bay on Friday, August 11, 2017, with visitation at 10:00 a.m. and service to follow at 11:00 a.m.
