Charlene Barron, loving wife and mother, passed away on Sunday, April 9, 2017 at the age of 67, due to complications from a brain injury sustained in a bike accident on August 17, 2016. Charlene was born in Chicago, IL on November 15, 1949. She attended Northern Illinois University in De Kalb, IL, and studied nursing at Little Company of Mary Hospital in Oaklawn, IL. She worked as a registered nurse at the Mayo Clinic in Rochester, MN for four years. After moving to Minnetonka, MN, she worked as a childbirth educator for the Childbirth Education Association of Mpls. St. Paul. Charlene, who loved animals, later moved to Medina, MN where she raised horses, goats, cats, and dogs. Charlene also had a passion for yoga, which motivated her to became a certified yoga instructor. Charlene was an avid runner, cross-country skier, biker and swimmer who raced in 30 American Birkebeiners, over 50 marathons (including 8 Boston marathons) and many triathlons (including 9 IRONMAN triathlons). She competed for the U.S. IRONMAN Triathlon championship in Hawaii. She also competed in the Boston Marathon that was bombed by terrorists on April 15, 2013. In that race, Charlene was 100 yards from the finish line when she heard bombs going off. Policemen told her to turn around and run the other way. So she changed directions and ran to safety. Charlene was predeceased by her son Adam Barron, who died in a kayaking accident in Colorado on May 27, 2006. She is survived by her husband Dr. Stephen Barron of Medina, MN; her children Eric Barron of Orono, MN and Rebecca Barron of New York, NY; her brother Stuart Feinberg and his wife Brenda of Battavia, IL; and her sister-in-law Ann Lev and her husband Tobe of Orlando, FL. Charlene will be greatly missed. The memorial service will be held on Wednesday, April 12 at 2:00 PM at the Minnesota Landscape Arboretum at 3675 Arboretum Drive, Chanhassen, MN.
